Executive Scholarship

The VCU African American Alumni Council awards two $1,000 scholarships to be distributed annually to two VCU (one undergraduate and one graduate). Preference will be given to previously underserved students.
For current or transfer students, nominees will be ranked by their college grade point average. For freshman or transfer students with fewer than 18 credit hours, high school grade point averages and composite ACT/SAT scores can be considered. While it is understood that neither a composite ACT/SAT score nor a high school grade point average can perfectly describe past achievement and predict future success, they provide a commonly accepted and reasonable measure to assess students' academic preparation and ability relative to others in a population. Furthermore, some research suggests that the two indicators combined provide a better assessment than either criterion by itself. Consequently, incoming freshman or transfer students with fewer than 18 credit hours can be assessed for scholarships on the strength of either or both their composite ACT/SAT scores and high school grade point averages.
