Mr. Wallace thanked those who participated and assisted with the ODU tailgate party. He stated that the game was well attended and several people attending the tailgate expressed interest in joining council.
Mr. Wallace mentioned that the AAAC (represented by Eddie Robinson) will assist the VCU Alumni Association with working the concession stands during the tonight's ESPN bracket buster game against Bradley University. This will be VCU's first nationally televised game this season.
Mr. Wallace also reported that the AAAC recognized its alumni of the year during the African-American Studies Programs "Black history in the Making" event last Thursday. The two recipients, Dr. Renee Jackson-Anderson and Dr. Darrell Walden were very grateful and honored by the recognition.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS
Professional Development
Mr. Powell said that there wasn't anything new to report. The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs Mentoring program is been established. We were told previously that they would like to attract more student interest before inviting more alumni to participate.
Mr. Wallace wants the AAAC to consider developing some type of mentoring services to incoming freshmen through the Academic Success Program. He will contact Dr. James for additional information about the feasibility of this idea.
Scholarships
Mr. Powell reported that he is having difficulty identifying the proper people to post the AAAC's scholarship information on the VCU scholarship web site. Mr. Wallace suggesting contacting Delores Taylor and she may be able to point us in the right direction. Mr. Powell also mentioned that the scholarship information is on the AAAC's web site if anyone would like to take a look at it.
Programs and Events
Mr. Powell reported that the reunion brochures are being printed and should be in the mail by the end of February. He also reviewed the schedule of events.
Mr. Wallace wants to draft a letter to invite former faculty and alum to weekend. Mr. Powell received a call from Dr. Moore suggesting a formal invite for their participation.
There was a discussion regarding discounts for members for the weekend and using the event to help increase membership. One of the ideas discussed involved free tickets to the dance for alumni who join the AAAC on-site. The concept would require further examination and will be tabled for the time being.
Budget
The budget report was tabled until the next meeting.
